krikketgirl: (School Mean Kitteh)

So I balanced my bank account with our money program today. Chris kept making comments about how I ought to. I like to take my time. I hadn't balanced it since November. Ahem.

The thing that I dislike the most about school and work combined (not to mention all the other craziness) is that I really miss the days where a day off school or off work meant just that: a day off. Now, with staggered breaks (because of course my spring break for school is not the same as my spring break for work) and a lot of work, every "day off" is just an opportunity to work to get ahead to save myself some grief later on. I hate the feeling like if I read a book or goof off with the kids I'm doing something barely permissible.

In other news, I have been accepted to the Ambassador Bible Center for this fall. ABC is located at our church's home office, so I can ride in to work with Chris--bliss!--and even get to have lunch with him maybe. I am super excited. I figure that in a time of major transition, it can't be a bad idea to spend 9 months in the Word. And that gives me some time to settle down and figure out what the next steps are.

Here's the thing: I really, really hope the next steps after that involve a library. I am surprised at the panic feeling I get when I think about not working in a library for the first time in over a decade.

It's never bad to spend any amount of time in the Word. I wish I made more time for it.

You will find a nice, sedate library to take you in. I would be surprised to find that the home office didn't have one.

The home office does have a library, but it's pretty small. I guess I could bribe someone to go mess things up in there periodically so I could straighten it out...also, what are these sedate libraries of which you speak? : )

I'm amazed at all you manage to balance and accomplish! Me? I don't have the excuse of work and school, and I got a lot further behind on balancing the checkbook in our money program. So I gave up, and started over with January. So far, so good.

ABC sounds like a good transition plan. You will figure out the next steps, and you will find a library to love.

What does money program mean. I mean I balance my checkbook monthly, but I don't understand "money program".

We have Microsoft Money 2002--it keeps track of your accounts and expenditures and then you balance it as you would a checkbook, by checking your electronic records against your bank statement.

Oh I see, thanks.

I've been using Quicken for several years, but now I'm just tracking everything online at Mint.com.

Yes! I relate. In all likelihood my future holds many more years of librarying, but I freak out just a little thinking about EVER giving it up.

Exactly...I'm going from full-contact library work to none, cold turkey. Shouldn't there at least be some sort of 12-step program?

Librarians Anonymous, for sure.

You have an excellent idea for transition! What better way to keep in touch with your husband and immerse yourself in the Word.

Find a library you like and join their volunteer force. It will allow you to become familiar with the library and introduce you to like-minded people.

So is this a study program, not a job? I think it's great that you have that opportunity! I would love to take some Bible courses.

*hugs*

I'm glad you were accepted at ABC. And I hope there's library work in your future. You love it so much and have such a passion for it that I'm praying you find something. :)
