Count Down Meme: 9 Things About Me
Dec. 8th, 2010 06:54 amSeriously, I talk so much that it would surprise me if I could come up with nine things you've never heard before. Let's see.
- I am really, really timid. No one ever believes this, but it is quite true. It is super-hard for me to enter new situations with new people.
- I think people are pretty much the best thing ever. Which is why no one believes I'm timid! My gregarious nature overrides my timidity. I would rather meet new people and be with all the people I know than almost anything else.
- I talk a lot. Which comes in handy at my job and in many other situations, but can also be a serious weakness. I try to watch out and not monopolize conversations...and I really love it when I'm talking with another "talker," who will feel free to interrupt and get their talking time in. There are some people I love talking with simply because I can let the words flow and know that they will jump in when they are ready to speak! I love talking to shyer people, too (these would include my husband), but I have to be very careful and always remember to leave lots of blank space for them to fill.
- I prefer bold, blue ink pens to any other color or ink flow. Blue ink just seems so much happier--and I love when the pen just glides along without there being much friction between pen and paper.
- My default setting is "Woo-hoo!" I am drawn in colors of enthusiasm, and it worries me when I feel lackluster about things.
- My nickname in my AP Calculus class in high school was "Sparkle." I endeavor to live up to that nickname, because life needs all the sparkle I can eke out.
- I am easily touched/I cry easily. My poor children. I have been known to mist up on first days, last days, days in-between. When they're being especially awesome. When they're being dreadful. When I sing certain songs. When I see something beautiful. When I get a moving letter in the mail. I tell them that someone in our family has to let their emotions show, but they aren't buying it. I'm a bit of a sap when it comes to sentimental things.
- I would really love to have a house with secret passages. Not that they would remain secret for long, as I would insist on showing them to all our guests, because it would be so cool!
- I have a far-greater-than-average passion for library work. I can talk about Dewey and his decimal system for hours. No, really. And repairing a book brings me a rare and special joy. But the greatest thing is taking a person who is looking for a piece of knowledge or a work of literature and being able to navigate them through the library to the exact item they wanted...or introducing them to the material they didn't know they wanted. It's like being a detective, a teacher, and a superhero all in one!
