My Temper and Other School Exploits

On Tuesday, I stood in front of a 1st-grade class and asked, "Who can tell me what we talked about the last time we were together?" I was thinking about quilts, about the project the first grade is working on, about the book Texas Star. I looked out at the raised hands and called on a little girl.
She smiled and said, "Your temper."
My thoughts stopped on a dime. My temper? We had discussed my temper? What had happened in that last class? I didn't remember any discussion of my temper. Wouldn't I remember something like that? Had I blocked it from my memory for some reason? Yikes!
So I tried to move on. "Well, I guess we might talk about that if we were being naughty," I said, in the absence of any idea what she was talking about. I called on someone else, who said, "Quilts," and I began talking about our quilt project.
I saw the little girl's hand go up again. "Yes?"
"I meant in [the counselor's] class, when she talked to us."
Oh. Ohhhhh! The counselor had come in (a couple of classes ago) to talk to the children about how to have a happy classroom. Whew!!
And then yesterday I almost went to the school nurse because I thought I had a vivid rash on my arm. Fortunately, just in time, I noticed that it was actually red sweater fuzz from my new top.
