After a variety of e-mails to and from my professor, I have discovered that what she said she wants for our final paper and what she really wants are two entirely separate things. She said she wanted a paper that was reflective and showed our understanding of sociological concepts and how they affect our lives. What she really wants is a paper with headings and bolded terms so she can easily go through with a marking pen and make sure we used six sociological terms in each section.

I am really very angry about this. First, because writing a paper like that requires NO understanding of the topic. It means I can lift stuff from boldface in the textbook and plant it in my own sentences. Second, because it isn't at all what she said she wanted. And third, because someone who is clearly not able to communicate clearly is going to be judging my ability to communicate clearly.

I edited a paper for GC3 in one of her classes. Her original paper was atrocious (by my standards) and she re-wrote it and ended up with a very nice essay.

She lost it on her computer and I wasn't avail to send her another copy of her final edit, so to keep from getting a zero on it she turned in her original. Better to have a low grade than no grade was her logic.

The child got an A on that paper. Incomplete and run on sentences, scattered thoughts, contradictory paragraphs and all. Speaks volumes.
