What Would You Do?

I was reading a class the book Miss Nelson Is Missing, by Henry Allard and James Marshall. And I set the story up by asking the class to think about what they would do if they came to school one day and their teacher was missing, and they didn't know where she had gone.

I got some standard responses:

"I would go home and sleep."

"I would go home and play video games."

"I would tell the principal."

"I would call 9-1-1."

"I'd have a party!"

But my very, very favorite response of all time?

"I'd stay in the classroom and eat PIE!"

Sadly, the absence of a teacher does not necessitate the presence of pie.

Haha! Love it!

One day my 5th grade science teacher was missing at the beginning of the hour. In the ensuing 10 minutes before he arrived, my class had:
  • obediently stayed in the hallway next to the locked classroom door
  • two members engage in a breath holding duration contest, whereupon one student fainted, whereupon other members freaked out
  • members oblivious to the fainting picked the lock
  • necessitated an emergency call, by the science teacher to the custodial staff, when it was discovered that the lockpicking attempt had in fact rendered that lock permanently locked.
