I don't want to think about leaving my job. This job has been one of the most challenging things I have ever done, and I can't say, "Oh, I've enjoyed every minute," because frankly in any job there are moments, minutes, hours, whole days that make you want to flail and cry.

But I love it here. I love the coworkers. I love the kids. I love the way the light streams into the hallway. I love seeing the sunshine on the butterfly garden and the kindergarteners winking as they pass me. I love finding books for students and teachers. I love telling stories. I love seeing 30 1st graders looking at me with wide eyes, wondering what will happen next in the book. I love the hustle of the school day and the long golden quiet of the afternoon.

There are 29 days left in the school year--they count down on morning announcements. I try not to think about. Don't think, don't think, I tell myself. Don't think about the library opening next year without you at the desk. Don't think about your nameplate in a box. Don't think about the kids.

But do remember. Make mental pictures. Carry them always. Remember, remember, remember.
