It's funny how personal our likes and dislikes are, and how hard it is for us to imagine that there are people who like what we don't or dislike what we do.

Take TV, for instance: I don't really like watching it. I mean, I do watch it, from time to time, but it's not something that I think of as fun, usually. It's hard to explain that to people, because television is so ubiquitous. It's like confessing you don't like Hawaii or Pride and Prejudice.

On the other hand, a simple mention of how many boxes of books I have racked up (pretty sure we're over 20 now) is enough to send people into a flurry of suggestions that I get rid of them. They can't imagine having that many books that they actually love enough to pack and move, while I know that these are the books that I sorted through and loved enough to keep.

Such small things, but they can seem like such big disconnects!

Long-Overdue Audience Participation: What do you like or not like that is hard to explain?
